Further exploration of "if"

Assuming you read my post below, you understand that I am not willing to admit just yet that the Tigers will play in the post-season. However, that has not stopped me from wondering about playoff scenarios and thinking about a divisional series opponent. This article explains it pretty well. The short answer is that if the Tigers enter the playoffs with the best record in the AL, they would have to play the wild card winner unless the wild card winner is from their own division. So, if the Red Sox or Yankees win the wild card, the Tigers would play one of them. But, if the White Sox or Twins win the wild card, the Tigers would not play them, and instead would face the playoff team with the worst record (likely the winner of the AL West).
